Our Social and Emotional Wellbeing (Suicide Prevention Promotion) Program was established to implement activities from the Great Southern Regional Aboriginal Suicide Prevention Plan, which provides a roadmap to implement suicide prevention and mental health promotion activities across the Great Southern region.

Key priorities include:

Increasing literacy surrounding mental. health, wellbeing and suicide prevention.

Decreasing stigma associated with mental health issues and suicide.

Increasing community ability to seek help for themselves and for others.

Increasing coping skills and the ability for community to manage difficult life experiences.

Improving care and support for individuals in crisis.

Improving care and support for those affected by suicide.
How can we help?
Through community-based activities, such as educational programs and workshops, we can help community to recognise warning signs of suicide, provide support and take action to help mob in crisis to stay safe and get the help they need.

We do not provide mental health case management/counselling, but we can help with referrals for community to the services they require.
Why is mental health important?
Good mental health allows people to build strong relationships, work productively and contribute to their community.
It is an integral component of overall well-being, including our social, emotional, cultural, kinship and spiritual strength.
What activities and workshops do we provide?
Our team visits schools, communities and groups to deliver:

Cultural arts (weaving and painting)

Music sessions

Sport activities

Traditional practices to build resilience and mental health

About the Great Southern Regional Aboriginal Suicide Prevention Plan

Since 2021, our program has been critical to achieving progress against the key priority outcomes of the Great Southern Regional Aboriginal Suicide Prevention Plan.
The Great Southern Regional Aboriginal Suicide Prevention Plan seeks to provide a roadmap to implement and evaluate evidence-informed suicide prevention and mental health promotion activities across the region to support improved mental health and community wellbeing.
